  • How do I start a broedplaats / initiative?

Starting an incubator/initiative requires a very conscious choice.

    Why?

It takes a lot of (unpaid) time, perseverance and vision for your initiative. Key question: why do you want to exist as an initiative? What are you going to add to the existing range of makers in The Hague / Netherlands / the world?

Contact the incubator broker (broedplaatsmakelaar) and Stroom. Together with you, we will see whether an existing initiative can work with you as a mentor.

    Good to know

Our experience is that it often takes several years before an initiative has developed a sustainable status and starts looking for a more permanent situation. Both in terms of group and housing.

  • Where can I find a place for my initiative?

Affordable space for maker initiatives are scarce. Also in The Hague.

The municipality of The Hague continues to look for good places, both temporary and more permanent work space. We recommend that you first experiment with your initiative ‘temporarily’. This is usually more affordable and you are not immediately tied to long-term rental contracts.

In any case, submit your wish to the incubator broker Ria de Waal via info@haagsebroedplaatsen.nl or 06 514 67 470

And also look for possible space with vacancy managers, for example:

Think carefully about how much space you really need and try to share as much space as possible with other initiatives / projects. Therefore, contact existing incubators/initiatives  and discuss the possibilities with them.

Expect that finding suitable space will take a long time or may not be successful at all.

  • I just need a studio. What can I find?

If you are a professional artist living in The Hague you can consult Stroom Den Haag studio programme. There are both permanent and temporary studios available. You can consult a regularly updated list of available studios on their website:
    https://www.stroom.nl/nl/haagsekunstenaars/ateliers.php

It is also recommended that you check various initiative’s websites and social media for available spaces.

  • How do I add my initiative to this website?

If you are a professional initiative of makers in The Hague’s art and culture sector, you can send a message to katarina@haagsebroedplaatsen.nl.
