The municipality of The Hague will enforce vacancy in the city from the beginning of 2026. This is the result of a motion by GroenLinks and D66 to introduce a vacancy regulation. A majority of the municipal council voted in favor of the proposal in November.

The vacancy regulation should give the municipality more tools and resources to actively tackle vacancy. For example, by obliging owners to report vacancy or by forcing them to take into use if a building remains vacant for too long.
